Craig and Lee II

Around the Table These couple of shots were some odds and ends that I took at Lee and Craig’s wedding. There is quite a difference in the editing process between these ones and the more formal pictures I took. The “formal” ones were more color drained where these are more vibrant and deep. All pictures feel a certain way when you are editing them. These pictures just felt right for this kind of editing.

Interesting Notes: I really wanted to get a good reflection off the box in “Family History.”  With all the people walking around during the reception, I found it very hard to get a clean shot of the tables. Luckily I finally got that one.

Craig and Lee Get Married

Lee and Craig

On Sunday February, 20th Craig and Lee Zavorkskas got married at the 100 club in Portsmouth, NH. I had the privilege to assist Rachel Swain in shooting this very brief wedding. This is my first batch of shots from the wedding with more to follow, including HDR photos from the reception.

Vintage 614

Vintage 614
It was about 5 years ago that I originally took this photo in a tucked away laundromat in downtown Portsmouth, NH. It was one of my first pictures I took when I began to get into photography. Unfortunately, I lost this picture when my hard drive stopped working a few years ago. I decided that it would a good idea to go back to that sight and shoot there again. Since I hardly ever find myself in pictures, I figured it would be a good photo to make into a self portrait considering the history I have with this dryer.

Interesting Notes: The photo titled “Drying” was taken back in June of ‘09 when I had that same memory of the old vintage 614 dryer.

Meeting Jadon

Jadon 6In mid January I made a road trip from Colorado to move back to Maine. On my way back I had the opportunity to stop in Alloway, New Jersey to visit my brother, sister-in-law, and my new nephew Jadon. After 6 months of only seeing pictures of my nephew I finally got to meet him face to face. I spent most of my time holding and playing with him which led for not a lot of opportunity to take pictures. I had one chance to take some shots of him as the sun was setting and the fire place was warming up. I was only able to capture a small set of pictures in a short amount of time which is why he is wearing the same thing in every shot.

Interesting Notes: As you can see he has amazing blue eyes which I decided to highlight in the black and white photo of him. If you look closely at the left side of Jadon’s face in the straight away drool bubble close up you can see the reflection of the fireplace on his face. My brother is also featured in a couple of shots (he doesn’t like the look of his beard whiskers for some reason).

When they come to Maine to visit I’ll have more opportunity to take pictures of the family trio. I look forward to talking those pictures.

Favorites from 2009

Cherryvale2009 was an interesting year for me and one that I felt I really struggled and also really grew as a photographer. That year I became very frustrated at the lack of inspiration that surrounded me in Boulder, Colorado. I felt like everything was too “new” and modern, which made finding unique shots very difficult. Don’t get me wrong Boulder, Colorado is an amazing place with beauty all around but yet I still struggled with finding shots that I really got exited about. However, this helped me grow a lot as a photographer. I found more ways to step out of the box and new techniques with photography that has made my style what it is today. Below is a collection of what I think are my best/favorite of 2009. Enjoy.
